Mid-Term

1). Dear Friend,
I just recently took English 1102, and through out the course we covered many topics. Some of the topics we covered are Health and Nutrition, research, and what is it like to be ourselves. Each of these main topics taught me a lot about myself and and my writing. We read a book called Peace Butter and Jelly and it was about an authors journey to where he was today. It was not just a success story it was a lot more he talked about his family history and the impact his family had one him today as a person. The author even used recipes to represent the small things that matter in life. Reading this book taught me how to make healthy food and how to appreciate the small things even if it is my grandmothers soup recipe. Researching was the most in-depth topic we covered. We had to pick a health topic to write a research paper on, but it was not as easy as it sounds. I had never had to do an annotated bibliography before and while researching we had to write one. After visiting the librarian I learned that you can text yourself call numbers while looking for a book, and the school has many articles on most topics. We were asking to write an essay with the prompt being "What is it like to be you". The question seemed simple, but in reality is was not. I remember sitting at my desk trying to start the essay but i could not think of what it was like to be me. After finally getting started I figured out what is like to be me. From this essay I learned how to more in depth write about myself, and I would also say I learned about adding more detail. Over all English 1102 is an interesting and good course and I'm sure you will learn a lot more that I did.
Happy Writing,
Audrey Marion

2). The annotated Bibliography was one of the most difficult assignments for me because I had never completed one of them before. After doing a group workshop I learned how to successfully complete one. While I was doing my research on obesity it was hard to find good sources on-line because I felt like they all said the same thing, but then I found two print sources that helped me out a lot.I though I took a risk by using mostly book sources because it takes a lot more time to go though a book than an internet source. So sometimes its good to branch out from the internet to find good information. I chose obesity because its a major problem in society today. Most readers would learn facts about obesity and see the sources I used. While writing this I would say I sharped my research and annotating skills. For the final portfolio I will most likely add more sources and make the annotations longer and add more detailed.

3). Peace Butter & Jelly was an excellent way to start off the semester since the main idea about English 1102 is health. The book is all about health and not just in the since of eating right and exercising. Unlike the text book for English 1102 this book kept my attention and was a fun read. I also thought it was interesting that we got to meet with the author and try out the recipes that were included in the book.

4). Haiku-
My English class

fourth blog post

The blogs have taught me to continue research and keep having more inquires about my topic. It seems as if the more questions I have the more information I found out about my topic. Since we are writing a research paper the more information you can get its better. As for the inquires it is how this entire paper started, having questions. From the questions I learned that myself as a writer has more of a deep though processes than before. The whole blogging thing isn't the most fun assignment I have ever done, but its different. Different can be good. I think it has a good purpose within the English class, but I am not sure what other people would post on here willingly. Over all blogger was not a terrible assignment, it was interesting to see how other people were on their writing process as well.

3rd Blog Post

1)Since my topic is on obesity as a disease I am writing to everyone. I'm not saying everyone is obese, but most people do not consider obesity a disease. With my paper I am going to be writing to anyone who does not think obesity is considered a disease. Also people who are obese I could be informing more on their disease and the condition they are in. This is such a crucial topic because obesity is considered an epidemic. This epidemic is spreading all across America and across the world. It is a preventable disease and it is very prevalent in our society because over 400 Million of the worlds population are obese today. I like this topic because I am into health and I feel badly for people that are struggling with this disease. I think high school teachers wanted us to learn how to write a paper and they did not care so much for what was in the paper. Now as a college students i think teachers want to know how we feel about a certain topic and maybe some teachers think our opinions help us with our writing.
2) Yes i am seeing different views the internet sources so far are still the same, with cause and effects. The book sources are branching out into different ideas such as, genetics and environment.
3) I learned the obesity rate of adolescents and children has tripped over the past 30 years.

2nd blog post

The most interesting source i have found so far would be Obesity Prevention and Public Health. There is not one specific author that wrote this book but it was edited by David Crawford, and Robert W. Jeffery. This book is interesting because it contains mostly research analysis that was conduct in different studies from different universities. In includes different causes and approaches to obesity. This book covers many different topics dealing with obesity for example the following; population approaches to promote healthful eating behaviors, and the role of socio-cultural factors in the obesity epidemic. Since my topic is on Obesity as a disease the variety in this book will help with the research portion because most on-line sources are just causes and effects of obesity. My question still remains the same after looking into this source.

1st blog post

My topic is obesity as disease. Its the argument of is obesity a disease or a condition. Does genetic factors make one obese or is it their environment and way of life. I knew I wanted to write on something to do with obesity but just obesity as a whole is a very broad subject. Obesity is very prevalent in our society today, most adult Americans are overweight or obese today, which causes the rise in obesity in children too. Obesity is a main cause is many diseases such as heat disease and diabetes. Obesity is a growing epidemic and the more people know about it and its risks the more likely lifestyles will change. While researching i expect to find not so much the argument but research that shows both sides. I had done some internet research and most of the things i have found include the effects of obesity and what can cause it. I have not done in dept research to know if scholars agree with my question yet, but as i research more i hope to find some different view points. I also i hope i can find enough information as the argument and not just basic facts of obesity.
